RBI Executive Director Indranil Bhattacharya joins the Monetary Policy Committee

The Reserve Bank of India has appointed its Executive Director Indranil Bhattacharya as an ex-officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). He will replace Rajiv Ranjan, who is retiring. This change comes just ahead of the policy review scheduled from September 29 to October 1, 2025.

About Indranil Bhattacharya

  • Over 28 years of experience in central banking
  • Spent more than two-thirds of his career directly in monetary policy formulation
  • Executive Director in RBI’s Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR) since March 2025
  • Served as Economic Adviser at Qatar Central Bank from 2009 to 2014
  • Postgraduate degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi
  • Published numerous papers on monetary economics, financial markets, and market structure
